OndoReporter | 2016 BUDGET: FG won’t tolerate corruption in building industry—Udoma

The Federal Government, yesterday,
reiterated its commitment to apply zero
tolerance for corruption in the construction of
vital infrastructure, so such projects could
contribute to poverty reduction, job creation
and equity in the society.

Minister of Budget and National Planning,
Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, who stated this
yesterday, while declaring open the 2016
National Project Cost Reduction summit
organised by the Quantity Surveyors
Registration Board of Nigeria, QSRBN, in Abuja,
vowed that the present administration would
adopt appropriate cost control tools in
execution of the 2016 budget.

The theme of the two-day summit is “Good
Governance, Value-for-Money and Sustainable
National Development.”

Senator Udoma noted that the pertinent issue
before the summit was how proper costing of
projects for the budget and development plan
could be done to ensure value for money and
prudent management of available resources.
The minister, who was represented by the
Minister of State, Budget and National
Planning, Hajia Zainab Ahmed, said: “The
need to move in this direction has become
inevitable in view of current fiscal constraint
arising from fall in the price of oil and
government revenues.

“In the deliverance of good governance, proper
project conception and implementation are
germane.

‘’For instance, it is when the government
provides essential facilities/ infrastructure,
such as good roads, electricity, health care
facilities, well equipped educational institutions
e.t.c, that the desired improved living standard
can be realized."
