OndoReporter | BEHEADING OF STUDENTS: ABSU summons meeting of monarchs, landlords
FOLLOWING the gruesome
beheading of two level 300 students of the
Abia State University, Uturu, the management
of the university has summoned the traditional
rulers and landlords in Uturu community for a
an emergency meeting today.
The meeting, according to the Vice Chancellor
of the University, Prof. Uche Ikonne would
device means of ensuring that owners of
houses in the area profile the people they give
their houses to.
Meanwhile, the Abia State Governor, Dr.
Ikpeazu has also directed proprietors of
commercial hostels in the university
community to conduct regular identity audit of
students living in their hostels.
Irked by the gruesome killing of the students
by cult group, the governor said henceforth all
proprietors of student commercial hostels
must take responsibility for the activities that
take place in their facilities, saying that this
will require that they take interest in the
identity, background and profile of the
students living in their hostels.
To achieve this, the governor directed that the
proprietors must conduct regular identity
audit of the inmates of the hostels as to be
able to ascertain the credibility of the persons
in their custody, adding that student hostels
will no more be operated as a mere business
venture available to whoever that can pay the
price.
According to Prof. Ikonne, the university has
enough hostels to accommodate the students
and blamed the craze by students to stay off-
campus on their zeal to be free.
Ikonne also called on parents to pick interest
in the welfare of their wards in the university
and know where they stay, saying that it was
not enough to just give them money without
knowing where the live.
